When Art Becomes Sustenance, 2020

A1 Print (Limited Edition)

This work is inspired by a mould-infested basement under the John Lewis in Kingston when I was studying my foundation there at Kingston School Of Art. The piece translates feelings of discomfort, the creation of goosebumps and hairs standing on end from being in the space. By taking baked beansout of their context and function as a source of food and palcing them on the skin, it provokes horror and disgust... yet we also find beauty in the image and title. Viewing the work post covid, the title reflects the importance and necessity of art during a time of uncertainty and the power it has in bringing people together. Art is a form of nourishment.
